5 years of residency training, 4 of which in clinical surgery, and one year as chief/senior resident. Recertification is required after 10 years.
Subspecialties
Additional training in the subspecialties of plastics, thoracic, vascular, pediatric, surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, transplant, endocrine, breast, and critical care surgery are possible.
